Women’s Six Nations: France set up Grand Slam decider with England after thrashing Wales

France will head to Twickenham next weekend to take on England in the Women’s Six Nations Grand Slam decider after they thrashed Wales 39-14 on Sunday.

In front of over 50,000 fans at the ‘home of rugby’, those two sides will once again battle it out for the title.

The Red Roses have held the upper hand over the last few years and have not lost a game in the competition since the 2018 tournament, when the French won the Grand Slam.

Les Bleues will go into Saturday’s Six Nations clash in a confident mood, however, having achieved four dominant victories in a row against Italy, Ireland, Scotland and most latterly Wales.

Comfortable win over Wales

Against the Welsh, France scored four tries in a one-sided first half to lead 29-0 at the break but Wales were the better side in the second and might have had more than two tries to show for their efforts.

Romane Menager went over inside two minutes as France completely dominated the early proceedings, with Gaelle Hermet and a double from Melissande Llorens adding to their lead.

Charlotte Escudero extended the advantage to 34-0 shortly after the interval but Wales then began to mount a fightback and Gwenllian Pyrs and Georgia Evans both crossed for tries that were converted by Elinor Snowsill.

The final word went to France, though, with Rose Bernadou scoring their sixth try to maintain their unbeaten record ahead of Saturday’s trip to London.

Wales need a point from their final match away to Italy to secure a second straight third-placed finish.
