Marseille‘s Spanish president Pablo Longoria intends to make significant changes to the club structure, with the chief now seeing Jean-Pierre Papin as the club’s new strategic adviser.
As reported by L’Équipe, several directors are currently in the hot seat and should leave OM in the coming months. Their potential departures have opened a window for Longoria to make some tweaks and bolster the technical department. The president is now willing to hire Jean-Pierre Papin as their new strategic adviser.
The report suggests that Longoria has been trying to bring in the former OM striker for a long time. According to a source close to the president, Papin will enjoy a more definitive role at the club. The source said:
“Jean-Pierre Papin would bring him a Marseille touch in a club today dominated by the Spaniards. Papin’s role would not be that of an ambassador, as Basile Boli still is today, but rather of a guide in high places.”
The 58-year-old has been the coach of Chartres for the last two years. It is expected that he will manage the team against Vannes on Saturday before heading toward OM, where he will understandably put pen to a three-year contract.
