Kylian Mbappé to play in wide role in Neymar’s absence

Paris Saint-Germain take on Ajaccio in an intriguing Ligue 1 away fixture on Friday. Ahead of the game, reports from France claim that Neymar’s absence could be a blessing in disguise for Kylian Mbappé.

L’Équipe understand that PSG manager Christophe Galtier could field Hugo Ekitiké in the centre-forward position to facilitate the absence of the Brazilian, who will miss the match through a suspension.

The 30-year-old will be suspended against Ajaccio for receiving his third yellow card in less than ten league matches in the new season.

Meanwhile, the same report understands that Mbappé could be deployed on the left flank, which is considered the Frenchman’s favourite position on the field. With Ekitiké leading the frontline for the Parisians, Lionel Messi and Mbappé expected to play just behind the target man. In this formation, the 23-year-old will get more space to run at defenders while also playing those quick link-ups with his fellow forwards.
