Christophe Galtier says Neymar will undergo treatment for ankle sprain

Appearing before the press ahead of his Paris Saint-Germain team’s Coupe de France trip to Châteauroux tomorrow evening, Christophe Galtier previewed an encounter that is set to see a much-rotated team take the field.

The manager notably confirmed that goalkeeper Keylor Navas would be making his first start of the season, the Costa Rican having been involved in training on Thursday morning.

With Neymar’s absence from the session having been a question mark, Galtier indicated that it had been planned in advance – with the forward’s ankle sprain suffered during the World Cup requiring some treatment.

With Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi also out of action, the manager indicated that the match would be the chance for some youth players to make an impression. However, Galtier pointed out that he did warn his players over the threat that Châteauroux could pose – in that they may be a third tier side, but they are still professional and have a squad made up of a number of former Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 players.

Asked about the a potential celebration of Lionel Messi’s World Cup in front of the PSG supporters, Galtier explained that the Argentine did not feel a particular need to do so – but the coach himself pointed out that he himself hoped Messi would be warmly welcomed back by the fans.
