Bayern Munich sporting director says Monaco “have the last say” on potential Alexander Nübel recall

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić has said that AS Monaco “have the last say” on whether Alexander Nübel (26) is recalled early from his loan spell at the Principality club. 

Nübel arrived at AS Monaco on a two-year loan deal at the start of the 2020/21 season. His contract with the Ligue 1 side comes to an end at the end of the current season. However, in an exclusive interview with Get French Football News’ Luke Entwistle, Nübel said that it makes “no sense” for him to return to the Bavarian club while Manuel Neuer is still the number one. 

However, following Germany’s World Cup exit, Neuer suffered a season-ending leg break, leaving Bayern Munich of a first-choice goalkeeper. Consequently, the club are scouring the market for a replacement. Sporting director Salihamidžić has now told Bild that whilst Nübel is the “obvious option.” However, he added that “in the end, AS Monaco have the last say.” 

According to reports from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Monaco are keen to keep hold of the keeper, and according to sources contacted by Get French Football News, Nübel is unkeen to return to Germany unless he has certain gametime assurances post-Neuer injury.
