Azzedine Ounahi’s former coach says Barcelona would be the “ideal club” for the Morocco midfielder

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Eurosport, Azzedine Ounahi’s (22) former coach Frédéric Reculeau believes that Barcelona would be the “ideal club” for the Moroccan international.

Ounahi has been a major breakout star at this year’s World Cup in Qatar, and has been crucial in helping Morocco defy expectations and reach the semi-finals of the tournament, beating Spain and Portugal along the way. Those performances have caught the eyes of elite clubs.

L’Équipe have reported interest from Leicester City, whilst Mundo Deportivo have linked Barcelona with making a move in January for the SCO Angers midfielder. The president of the Ligue 1 club, Saïd Chabane is resigned to losing Ounahi should a club come in for him.

Reculeau, who manager Ounahi at National 1 side Avranches, following his departure from Strasbourg, has said that Barcelona would be the perfect destination for him. “For me, it is the ideal club for him. His game is adapted to the Spanish division. Could he make it in other championships? Yes, but I would have more doubts because of the physical challenge. Either way, I see him more at Barcelona than elsewhere. The more he plays in a team with high potential, the more his talent will be apparent,” he said.

Ounahi is set to start in Morocco’s midfield when the Atlas Lions face France in the World Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
