Hardys show up moments ago at ROH’s Manhattan Mayhem and make big announcement about their future (w/Keller’s Analysis)

Tonight at Manhattan Mayhem, Matt & Jeff Hardy showed up unannounced and captured the ROH Tag Team Titles from The Young Bucks. They announced that they have signed with ROH for the biggest contracts in ROH and turned down an opportunity to sign with WWE. PWTorch Specialist Michael Souza is in attendance tonight. “It was an absolutely crazy moment the place went insane!” he says.

Keller’s Analysis: This happened quickly after the departure from Impact Wrestling. The Hardys value their independent contractor status and ability to work their own schedule on their own terms. While they could conceivably give up some of that by signing a big ROH contract, they have more autonomy than they would have in WWE. That said, this doesn’t preclude the Hardys from eventually going back to WWE, but in the immediate future, it’s not in the cards. As fun as it would have been to see Broken Matt or a variation of that in WWE, and perhaps Jeff Hardy back in the lead babyface mix as a singles wrestler, this injects some energy and interest in ROH with a fanbase that likely will “get” and embrace what the Hardys do going forward. It keeps ROH on the radar despite some significant roster departures of their own. This, in particular, likely gives a big boost to their big WrestleMania event that is at a venue with a 4,000-5,000 capacity that they’d like to fill.
