Manchester United are ready to agree terms with Marcus Rashford over a new contract amid reported interest from Barcelona, according to reports.
The England international has recently won the battle with Romelu Lukaku for the main striker role at the club, with interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer preferring the 21-year-old.
And Rashford has recently indicated that he would like to sign a new deal at Old Trafford with the Daily Mirror claiming that United have made a ‘breakthrough in talks’.
The Red Devils’ executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward expects a deal to be struck ‘within the next few weeks’ with a potential deal set to keep him at Old Trafford until 2025.
Under former boss Jose Mourinho, Rashford was less certain about his future at the club after becoming frustrated with his lack of game time.
However, Solskjaer clearly sees Rashford – who has scored eight goals in his last 15 matches – as one of his most important players, with the Englishman starting all but two of Solskjaer’s 13 games in charge.
A new deal for Rashford will see him pick up ‘improved terms which will take him closer’ to Anthony Martial’s salary worth around £200,000-a-week.
A separate report in Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona have Rashford as one player in their ‘portfolio’ of targets.
They do however see any deal for Rashford as ‘very complicated’ as he has no release clause and they know United would want a fee that would ‘exceed 100 million euros’.
