Marseille rejected €10m from Newcastle for Lassana Diarra in January

According to today’s Journal du Dimanche, Marseille rejected a €10m proposal from Premier League strugglers Newcastle for French international Lassana Diarra in January.

The player is understood to have reached an agreement with Marseille President Vincent Labrune when he signed last summer that allows him to leave for free this summer.

This agreement, although private, is illegal vis-à-vis LFP regulations, and Marseille may therefore be forced to accept at least some form of fee for the player.

According to today’s report, OM will look to recoup a fee for him between €15m and €20m if he decides that he wants to join PSG.

If he wants to join a foreign club, then he is more likely to leave for nothing.
