Thiago Maia on the Lille fan violence last night: “They tried to kick out at me.”

Speaking to RMC reporters, Brazilian versatile defender-come-midfielder Thiago Maia discussed the appalling fan violence that the Lille players were subjected to on the final whistle last night after their 1-1 draw with Montpellier. A plethora of Lille fans stormed onto the pitch following full-time, with some appearing to attempt to attack the team’s players.

Maia had the following to say:

“They tried to kick out at me but the steward took the blow. And then the steward got me into the dressing room very quickly. I am ok.”
