Official | PSG complete Leandro Paredes deal with Zenit

Paris Saint-Germain have ended their long-running pursuit of Leandro Paredes after making the Argentine midfielder’s €45m transfer from Zenit St Petersburg to the Parc des Princes official today.

The Ligue 1 leaders have fended off strong interest from Chelsea -who ultimately were put off by the hefty price tag – to sign the 24-year-old on a contract until 2023.

Paredes was signed by Zenit in the summer of 2017 on an initial €23m deal, and made 41 appearances for the Russian side in his season and a half at the club, scoring ten goals in all competitions.

The Parisians had specifically targeted a central midfield reinforcement as the French giants are preparing to lose Adrien Rabiot as a free agent and doubts linger over the fitness of Marco Verratti for the upcoming Champions League last-16 clash with Manchester United in two weeks.

Paredes told the club website of his happiness at signing for Thomas Tuchel’s side:

“After my previous experiences in Italy and Russia, I now have this fantastic opportunity, not only to discover a new league, but above all one to wear one of the most prestigious club jerseys in the world. I’d like to thank the chairman and coach for the confidence they have shown in me by signing me. We all know the extraordinary sporting dimension of Paris Saint-Germain, it’s players and staff. I share the same high ambitions and I will do everything to give my club what it expects of me as a midfielder”.
