On Tuesday, Ligue 2 side Toulouse FC announced the return of famed French international goalkeeper Fabien Barthez, who wore the club’s purple colours between 1986 and 1992, as a “goalkeeping consultant” until the end of the season.

Barthez’s first day was Wednesday in his new role on a short-term contract until the end of the season. He will be involved in coaching at all levels, from 1st team down to youth level.

He will work in concert with 1st team manager Patrice Garande, 1st team goalkeeping coach Rudy Riou and Youth Academy Director Denis Zanko.

Barthez explained why he had taken up the challenge: “My pure passion pushed me to invest myself in this consulting role. I want to transmit and share my vision for the position (of goalkeeper) across the board, in collaboration with the technical staff, for the 1st team goalkeepers and the youth academy goalkeepers.”

Toulouse currently sit in 9th place, losing 5-4 to Valenciennes last weekend.
