Philippe Clement: “Takumi Minamino can be very effective in many different roles.”

AS Monaco manager Philippe Clement spoke glowingly of new signing Takumi Minamino (27), whose transfer to the Principality club was confirmed on Tuesday.

Previously, Clement said that the player was “very high on our list” and revealed that he “had known him for a long time.” Speaking after AS Monaco’s pre-season match against Swiss side St Gall, which finished 1-1, Clement said, “I have a lot of ideas (of how to use him). That’s the advantage with him. He can be very effective in many different roles and in various positions.”

He continued, “It’s interesting to have players like that in attack that can create things and can allow us to change systems without problems.”

Clement also confirmed that whilst the Japanese international wouldn’t be present for the beginning of the pre-season camp in Faro, Portugal, he would be joining up with the squad later. “He will be there for the end of the camp. He has things to sort in Japan, but I think he should be with us on Friday (9th July),” he said.
