WWE’s Wild Card Rule Explained

According to Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE’s new Wild Card Rule was introduced to appease network executives. Reportedly, NBC Universal and Fox have both requested that the brand split end, as neither feel that either brand has enough star power.

The Wild Card Rule, in which 4 superstars from the opposite brand can appear on RAW or SmackDown, was created as a way for WWE to have their cake and eat it too. NBC Universal is also worried about WWE’s ratings, especially in the third hour of RAW.

Fox has requested that RAW & SmackDown storylines be featured on SmackDown Live, when it makes its Fox Sports debut later in the year.
