Chris Jericho Speaks on Being a Rebel in WWE, Proving a Point with AEW

On May 16, Chris Jericho’s appearance from the March 28 edition of Sirius XM’s Busted Open was posted on YouTube. Jericho spoke on a variety of pro wrestling topics and one of those topics was his years in WWE, where he was one of the biggest Superstars in company history.

Jericho talked about his time in WWE, as well as his reputation for being a rebel while working for Vince McMahon.

“I see it as standing up for what I believe, ruffling feathers, yes, which I think once again–that’s a great tern, ‘ruffling feathers–that’s what Vince does. He ruffles feathers, he always does. He always says ‘I play well with others.’ Well, I don’t either. I don’t need somebody, this is no respect to anybody, telling me what to do when they haven’t accomplished what I’ve done and who tell me what to do when my idea’s better and I know it.That p****s people off, but it gets results.”

Jericho also talked about pitching ideas to WWE before he signed with AEW. All of those ideas were rejected and now fans are left with one of WWE’s modern day legends jumping ship for a brand new pro wrestling company. So does Jericho have a point to prove by making this move?

“Yeah, absolutely.I’m out to prove a point.

“I was thinking, if I go back to WWE, it’s easy. that’s the easy way to go. I know what I’m going to be doing, I know what I’m going to be and that’s great, I can do it for the rest of my career. I don’t want to do that, I want to take a chance. I want to make a difference. I want to do something that–by Jericho showing up–people are paying attention.”

Jericho is expected to be a huge part of AEW and that begins at the company’s first big event on Saturday, May 25. Chris will face old rival Kenny Omega at Double or Nothing, as AEW prepares to make a massive impact on the industry when they go live every week this fall on the TNT network.
