PSG starlet Edouard hoping for extended Celtic stay

The 20-year-old forward has spent the 2017-18 campaign on loan at Parkhead but has opened the door for a permanent move to be made this summer

Odsonne Edouard is hoping to be back at Celtic for 2018-19 as he eyes a possible permanent move away from Paris Saint-Germain.

The talented 20-year-old linked up with the Hoops on a season-long loan agreement ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

He arrived with relatively little senior experience under his belt, with 17 appearances taken in during a previous short-term spell at Toulouse.

The Frenchman has, however, flourished in Glasgow, netting 11 times across 28 outings for Celtic as they close in on another domestic treble.

Edouard has thoroughly enjoyed his time with Brendan Rodgers’ side and expressed a desire to return to Scotland next term, telling L’Equipe: “For me, it’s the best option to stay at Celtic.

“I’m comfortable at the club, with the team and the coach. My objective is to stay here.”

A highly-rated striker who has previously earned 13 caps for the French Under-19 side is also hoping to further his international career next season.

He added: “Celtic is a top club, they have a top coach, who has helped me step up a level.

“Next year, I want to play for France U21.”

Edouard has been making steady progress in his career to date, so U21 recognition is a realistic target.

There will be plenty of people keeping an eye on him back home, with a PSG academy graduate having recorded his first senior hat-trick during Celtic’s 5-1 drubbing of Motherwell in December.

Edouard has also made his bow among the European elite, with a Champions League debut taken in during a group stage clash with his parent club.

“It was unforgettable,” Edouard said of a meeting with PSG at Celtic Park in September.

“It’ll stay with me for life. I was on the bench and looked up – it was incredible. After the game, the PSG players were stunned by the atmosphere.”
