Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho feels sad for Unai Emery after he was sacked by arch-rivals Arsenal.
The 48-year-old was appointed as successor to Arsene Wenger in May 2018 having won plenty of trophies at Sevilla and Paris St Germain.
Few would have anticipated such a shambolic end to his reign at the Emirates Stadium as a sparse crowd watched his final game at the helm – a 2-1 Europa League defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.
The result extended a winless run to seven games and saw the curtain fall on Emery’s tenure, with former Under-23s manager and assistant head coach Freddie Ljungberg appointed as his replacement on an interim basis.
“It is always sad news. I felt it as a kid when my dad was sacked as a manager, I have felt myself when I have been sacked previously,” Mourinho said.
“There is not one single manager that is sacked that I am happy about, I always feel deja vu.
“I am sad, but that is life. Unai is a fantastic coach, not happy at Arsenal obviously, but a fantastic coach with a fantastic record. His career will be on track.”
When asked if he would manage Arsenal, Mourinho added: “There is no point to tell it, it didn’t happen. It happened now.

“I am so happy here that I couldn’t even put the possibility of joining another club. You could point any club in the world in front of me and I would not join.”
