Solskjaer makes startling admission over Sanchez’s form

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits he “can’t do anything” about Alexis Sanchez’s current poor form for Manchester United.

Sanchez has had a terrible time at Old Trafford since his move from Arsenal just over a year ago with just one goal and three assists all season.

The Chilean has been one of the only players that has struggled under Solskjaer after the Norwegian has revitalised most of the squad from their bad performances under Jose Mourinho,

And following another disappointing display from Sanchez on Tuesday night as United lost 2-0 to Paris Saint-Germain, Solskjaer admitted he is struggling to help the 30-year-old.

“I can’t do anything about Alexis Sanchez,” said the Norwegian. “When he plays he needs to find himself because there’s a quality player there.”

Goals from PSG pair Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe mean United have a lot to do in the second leg if they want to progress to the Champions League quarter-finals.

And Solskjaer reckons the match against the French giants was a “level up” on recent games they have played.

“We weren’t at the level. This is a level up from what we have played against with the games we’ve had.

“We’ve had a great run, we came into this game in a great frame of mind, great form, but of course it was a big step up, they have quality from the keeper to the striker.

“There is a reason behind them being one of the favourites for the Champions League. That’s the level we need to aim for at this club.”
