Killam’s Analysis
We’re around the halfway point in this year’s World Tag League, and we’re starting to see a few top contenders breaking away from the pack. I sound like a broken record at this point, but it’s still too early to really make any definite statements. Even Nagata and Nakanishi, sitting with a single win, still have a possible 14 points left to compete for, and others have more. Still, short of a last-minute miracle run, I think you can safely call the chances of the bottom 8 teams “doubtful”, at best.
Suzuki and Archer are a powerhouse team right above the middle of the pack. They’ve already checked off a few major teams, but it’s going to be an uphill battle. They’ll definitely pick up at least 2-3 more wins just based on who is left, but the rest will be a battle, including all three of the current top point-getters.
Finlay and Juice Robinson have been the somewhat unexpected breakaway stars, and while I expected Ishii and YOSHI-HASHI to do well, I didn’t expect them to do this well. I think at this point, you’d have to be a moron not to consider EVIL and SANADA a favorite. They’re going to be in contention in the last few days, that’s an easy guarantee.
That said, both FinJuice and ISHII-HASHI are absolutely going to lose one or two upcoming matches. And if they don’t, they win. Both teams still have to face EVIL & SANADA, Suzuki & Archer and the Guerrillas of Destiny, not to mention each other – so basically, all the people expected to do really, really well in the World Tag League. In 2-3 more shows, the field will be a lot more clear as we head towards the finals.
